<\/p>\n[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Bilbao \/ Brussels, 9 April 2026 \u2013 Yesterday, 8 April, Bermeo Tuna took part in a key international meeting in Brussels on the future of sustainable fishing in Europe, where it presented its comprehensive tuna value chain model through a unique experience combining gastronomy, culture and sustainability.<\/p>\n
The event formed part of the international seminar organised by the Long Distance Advisory Council (LDAC) and the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), in collaboration with the Basque Government, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Regional Government of Andalusia, entitled \u201cHow should the next generation of EU Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreements (SFPAs) look like? A multistakeholder perspective\u2019, which brought together institutional representatives, experts and key stakeholders from the European fisheries sector.<\/p>\n
In this context, Bermeo Tuna organised a side event at the Basque Country\u2019s delegation in Brussels under the title:<\/p>\n
SUSTAINABLE TUNA EXPERIENCE \u2013 Gastronomic Experience from Ocean to Table by Bermeo Tuna.<\/p>\n

It was an immersive \u2018from the ocean to the table\u2019 experience, supported by the Provincial Council of Bizkaia and Bermeo Town Council, in which each culinary creation reflected the story of sustainable tuna, highlighting the link between the product, the region and good fishing practices.<\/p>\n
This event served to highlight the end-to-end supply chain model embodied by Bermeo Tuna, based on traceability, sustainability and shared responsibility throughout the entire value chain, from catch to the end consumer.<\/p>\n
\u201cSustainability is not built solely through regulations, but through shared knowledge, collective commitment and a long-term vision. Initiatives such as this allow us to bring to Europe a model that connects the entire value chain, from the ocean to the table, and which demonstrates that it is possible to make a global impact from regions with a strong local identity,\u201d said Maitane Leizaola, director of Bermeo Tuna.<\/p>\n
The event also served as a platform to raise awareness amongst key European stakeholders of the International Declaration on Tuna Sustainability, an initiative launched by the organisation itself with the aim of strengthening the sector\u2019s global commitment to responsible and transparent practices. \u201cThrough this immersive experience, we have sought to highlight what lies behind a tin or jar of tuna or albacore \u2013 the people, communities and companies that generate value and development. To this end, it is essential that we safeguard the resource, human rights and the competitiveness of those who act responsibly.\u201d<\/p>\n
Through its participation in Brussels, Bermeo Tuna reaffirms its role as an international leader in promoting a sustainable and innovative fishing model that is aligned with today\u2019s environmental and social challenges.<\/p>\n
Because behind every product there is much more than just flavour: there is commitment, knowledge and shared responsibility.<\/p>\n
