Bermeo Tuna Forum 2027
Two venues. One movement.
From April 30th –May 2nd, 2027, the Bermeo Tuna Forum will connect Bilbao and Bermeo along a single route.
We will begin in Bilbao with the conference, offering an international perspective on the major challenges facing the tuna industry. We will continue in Bermeo, where that conversation will intersect with the work, the value chain, the culture and the reality of the local areas.
These are not two separate events. It is a single experience that moves from the global to the local, from thought to reality, and from conversation to commitment.

One wave, two movements
The Forum is not conceived as three separate days.
It is a single journey that begins in Bilbao and continues in Bermeo. Starting from an international analysis, it engages with the reality of work and the region and opens a new cycle of commitments.

The international conference
The first day, the conference, will bring together representatives from science, industry, institutions, cities and international organisations linked to the tuna industry.
It will be a forum for analysing the challenges of the coming decade, comparing perspectives and developing a shared understanding of the rules, knowledge, markets and communities that form part of the system.
Bilbao kicks off the international discussion, which will continue throughout the three days of the Forum.

Tides and Waves
The waves that lap the coast
The value chain, employment, gastronomy and tuna-fishing culture all come together in this region.
A day to connect the international dialogue with the people and organisations that sustain the system: those who fish, process, research, distribute, cook and keep alive the relationship between these regions and the sea.
An event also open to the public, in which tuna-fishing towns will share lessons learnt, make commitments and jointly chart the course towards the next Forum.

Tuna crosses oceans, borders, markets and communities. No single actor can, on their own, understand or lead the system of which they form part.
That is why the programme is organised around four interconnected cardinal points. Human rights run through them all as a common requirement. Each addresses a different dimension, but all form part of the same architecture.

We begin with the rules that govern the system. We move on to the science and data that enable us to interpret it. We progress to the market and the incentives that guide decisions. And we conclude with the people and regions where those decisions have concrete consequences.
