🌊 We recently submitted our contribution to the European Commission’s consultation process for the development of the European Ocean Pact. As an organization that represents the tuna value chain and promotes sustainability in fisheries, we urge that sustainable and responsible fishing be a strategic pillar of the pact, incorporating its economic, social, and environmental dimensions.
🎣 At BTWC, we emphasize that sustainable fishing is a driving force behind marine conservation and a fundamental element for food security and the development of coastal communities. The association underscores the importance of applying science-based principles, ensuring traceability and transparency throughout the value chain, and strengthening international partnerships for responsible fisheries management.
⚖️ We also call on the European Union to adopt measures to ensure that fishery products from third countries meet the same environmental and social standards required in Europe.
🐟 Finally, we urge the European Commission to develop a European Ocean Pact that includes the voices of fishermen, coastal communities, and organizations committed to sustainability.
